Scotiabank Nuit Blanche
The Stereoscope installation was a part of the 2008 Scotiabank Nuit Blanche all-night art event on October 4th, 2008 in Toronto, Canada. Stereoscope was listed as project 1 in Zone A located in downtown Toronto.
The event itself was organized by the Toronto City Hall Special Events Office that has supported our work from day one in a professional manner making this unlikely installation a reality.
From dusk till dawn
Nuit Blanche Toronto 2008 officially started October 4th, 2008 at 18:52h EDT (6:52 PM at sunset). The opening took place right at City Hall and Stereoscope was the first featured project. So we made sure that moment something to remember as we started the installation right at that moment.
From then on, Blinkenlights Stereoscope presented a never ending stream of animations and interactive gameplay.
Later that night, Project Blinkenlights had a very special presentation at Nathan Philips Square: a VJ showed off a real time visualization of music using the Stereoscope installation on the facade of Toronto City Hall. This was accompanied by music specially composed for the project, the "Blinkenlights Symphony" by the german band Kraftfuttermischwerk.
Increased battery life
Stereoscope continued even after Nuit Blanche has closed down. We continued to broadcast pixels into public space for another week until the morning of Sunday, October 13th. That gave many people more time to play with and contribute to the installation.
Now that Stereoscope is over we will keep it alive virtually. So the simulators will continue working, offering both the recordings of the real installation and the playlist of the collection movies including those who have been submitted even after the installation stopped. So Stereoscope is here to stay.
